History
The Americano originated during World War II when American soldiers were stationed in Italy. The strong Italian espresso was too intense for them, so they diluted it with hot water to create a drink similar to their filter coffee back home. The Italians mockingly called this creation "Caffè Americano" – American coffee. What began as a compromise is now a beloved classic.
