The Story

The Piña Colada was invented in 1954 in San Juan, Puerto Rico, by bartender Ramón "Monchito" Marrero at the Caribe Hilton. He experimented for three months until he found the perfect balance. In 1978, it was declared the official national drink of Puerto Rico. The name means "strained pineapple" and refers to the freshly pressed, filtered pineapple juice.

The Experience
"The first sip is like a vacation for the senses. Creamy coconut meets sweet pineapple with a gentle warmth in the background. The frozen texture refreshes, the tropical aromas transport you directly to a palm-lined beach. It's vacation in a glass."

Did You Know?

The song "Escape (The Piña Colada Song)" by Rupert Holmes from 1979 made the drink even more popular. The song is about two partners who discover through personal ads that they're looking for each other – and both love Piña Coladas.
