History
Chai – the Hindi word for tea – has a 5,000-year history that began in the royal courts of India. The original Masala Chai was an Ayurvedic medicine, a brew of healing spices without tea. It wasn't until the 19th century, when the British cultivated tea in India, that black tea was added. Today, Chai is India's national drink, prepared by "Chai Wallahs" on every street corner.
Taste Experience
The first sip is like an embrace – warm, comforting, complex. The spices unfold gradually: first the sweet cinnamon, then the spicy warmth of ginger, finally the floral notes of cardamom. A Chai Latte is soul food in liquid form.
Fun Fact
In India, Chai is traditionally prepared by rapidly pouring it back and forth between two vessels – a spectacle that simultaneously cools the tea and aerates it. This technique is called "pulling" and requires years of practice.
